Matt and Spencer first matched on Tinder in December 2017. Spencer was home in Champaign for winter break, and Matt was finishing his first finals week at the University of Illinois. After chatting through the spring semester, Spencer asked Matt to be his boyfriend in May 2018.

Since then, they have crossed many milestones together: they both graduated college, moved to the west suburbs of Chicago, and adopted three beloved cats: Goon, Menace, and Bandit.

In May 2025, marking seven years of dating, Matt proposed, and Spencer said yes!
